Noah – Get the REAL story!

As the controversy over the film “Noah” erupted this week, two of EWTN’s most popular hosts were asked to weigh in on the movie.

Raymond Arroyo, host of "World Over Live" On EWTN, recently discussed "Noah" with Bill O'Reilly on Fox News' "The O'Reilly Factor."

Father Mitch Pacwa, popular host of “EWTN Live” and other series as well as a Biblical scholar, was interviewed by Stuart Varney of “Varney & Company” on the Fox Business Network. You can watch the entire interview here: http://www.foxbusiness.com/on-air/varney-co/index.html#/v/3414804417001

My favorite quote from that interview: “The only things it [the movie] has in common with the story of Noah in Genesis is the name of Noah, his three sons, there’s a boat, animals and a flood. Other than that, there’s very little in common!”

Some say the movie is entertaining; you just need to be aware that it has little or nothing to do with the Bible. However, as “World Over Live” Host Raymond Arroyo pointed out in his interview with Bill O’Reilly on “The O’Reilly Factor,” the Biblical connection is a problem since movie makers are using it to market the film. That caused O’Reilly to joke that instead of naming the movie “Noah,” the filmmakers might have done better to call their story “Sidney.” (See Arroyo’s complete interview here: http://video.foxnews.com/v/3427228775001/controversy-over-the-film-noah/#sp=show-clips),

From emails and social media comments, we know that audiences did expect to see a movie that had some connection with the real story. In a quote that may be more entertaining than the movie, Arroyo told O’Reilly, “They went to see ‘Gladiator’ in an ark. What they got was ‘Black Swan’s’ daddy in ‘Waterworld.’”

The details are wrong too. As Father Mitch told Varney, he was amused by the fact that the movie focuses on the evils of industrialization when that was definitely not a problem in Noah’s time. According to Father Mitch, those who lived during the time of Noah (from roughly 10,000 BC to 5,000 BC) didn’t even know how to make pottery, much less smelt iron!

Whatever your take on “Noah,” there is one way all of us could make this movie a big win for Christianity. Let’s all go to our social media sites and tell our friends and family that the film has inspired us to pick up our Bibles and read the real story of Noah – out loud — to our children and grandchildren. As those of us who read the Bible know, “God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God.” (Roman 8:28).

God bless Family!
