EWTN To Air ‘The Crusades:’ A Timely & Important Mini-Series!

Crusades Muslim warriorsWhen EWTN decided to produce a new docu-drama on the Crusades two years ago, most Americans had never heard of ISIS; no journalists had been beheaded in Iraq; and no Christian women and girls had been abducted or enslaved. Yet the Lord, with His perfect timing, knew that a mini-series on “The Crusades” needed to be ready to air in October – and so it is. (The mini-series airs 10 p.m. ET from Wednesday, Oct. 8 through Saturday, Oct. 11.)

You’ve heard the tales, now learn the truth concerning the church’s role in the Crusades and its efforts to restore the Holy Land to a place of safety for Catholic pilgrims. This powerful four-part series, shot on location in seven countries, gives viewers a well-rounded understanding of an important historical event, which has repercussions in our own time.

Each episode features original dramatizations, an original musical soundtrack recorded in Europe, and three pre-eminent, world-renowned Crusader scholars, together for the first time! They include Professor Jonathan Phillips, Professor of Crusading History at the University of London; Professor Jonathan Riley-Smith of Cambridge University, widely regarded as Britain’s leading historian on the Crusades; and Professor Thomas F. Madden, chair of the Department of History at St. Louis University, a widely recognized expert not only on the Crusades, but on Christian-Muslim conflict.

Viewers will also enjoy the many locales in which the series was shot: Istanbul; Turkey; Israel, including Jerusalem; France, Austria, England, Spain and Slovakia.Crusades Hospitaller nunsThe mini-series is preceded by what is sure to be a fascinating “EWTN Live,” featuring our own Middle Eastern Scholar Father Mitch Pacwa interviewing “The Crusades” Writer, Producer and Host Stefano Mazzeo and Professor Madden, author of “A Concise History of the Crusades,” and a number of other widely acclaimed books on this topic. (Airs 8 p.m. ET, Wednesday, Oct. 8.)

  • Episode 4: A look at the failures and successes of the Crusades and their legacy, including the role of St. Louis IX, the rise of the Ottoman Empire; the epic Battle of Lepanto, a turning point in the war, and a triumph of faith; the final Christian victory in the Iberian Peninsula, and the loss of the Holy Land, in particular, Jerusalem.

I meant to say that it’s too bad it WASN’T repeated after the first airing!

    • mjohnsonewtn says:

John, if you missed the first airing, you can see it online on our other satellites, in countries where it has not yet aired! Go to the EWTN home page, http://www.ewtn.com, and click on “Television” at the top of the page. In the drop down menu, look for “Program Schedules” and check out the listings for other countries, where it will be airing over the next couple of days. Once you find a time that is convenient for you, and you’re ready to view, just go to the “Television” tab again and look for “Live TV-English”, then check out the drop down menu for the satellite you want to view!

      • Do we know if this will be available on the EWTN Live feed on their Roku Channel?
        I don’t have cable.

        • mjohnsonewtn says:

Yes, you can view it online and yes, it will be available at a later date on Roku!
          God bless!

          • John says:

Michelle, do you have any idea when it will be on Roku?

          • mjohnsonewtn says:

John, the show is not scheduled to run on EWTN television until late 2014 or early 2015. Please check http://www.ewtn.com and/or our Facebook page (www.facebook.com/ewtnonline) as we get closer to the expected air date.

          • John says:

Michelle, I’m confused. I asked about when it might be on Roku, and you said that it isn’t scheduled to air on EWTN television until late 2014 or early 2015. However, it was just on a couple weeks ago! So do you mean it won’t be on EWTN on Roku until late 2014 or early 2015?

          • mjohnsonewtn says:

It won’t be on Roku until it’s on EWTN John. You have NOT seen this program yet. You are mixing it up I’m sure with another one of Elizabetta’s other programs on Iraq, Syria, etc. This new one is still being put together!

          • John says:

OK, something’s not right here. The press release that is above these comments says this: “(The mini-series airs 10 p.m. ET from Wednesday, Oct. 8 through Saturday, Oct. 11.)” And it WAS on, because I saw part of the last one!

          • mjohnsonewtn says:

Oops! Sorry John. I just published a new blog today and thought this referred to that! So shifting gears, “The Crusades” has been on ROKU for the past three weeks! It was taken down this morning. The series will re-air in January and, at that time, it will again be posted on ROKU. If you don’t want to wait, consider giving yourself an early Christmas gift and purchasing the series through EWTN Religious Catalogue, http://www.ewtnreligiouscatalogue.com/
            Sorry for the confusion!

          • John says:

Thanks for clearing that up Michelle! The same issue may apply to the comment from deacon2007 that is above mine! Will there be any notice when it goes on TV again in January?

          • mjohnsonewtn says:

Absolutely! Three ways John: Our website, our Facebook page, and our e-newsletter, “Wings.” If you haven’t signed up for the latter, just go to http://www.ewtn.com and look toward the right hand side nearer to the bottom of the page. It says “Wings Sign-Ups.” You just enter your email address! A confirmation email will be sent to that email address. Click to confirm it was really you and you’re done!

      • Xavier Quek says:

Hi thanks for your help. Saw the programme page but cannot find The Crusade movie viewing time. Xavier
